ABOUT US

Unique Minds commenced operations on the Wilson family’s dining room table more that thirty years ago. Motivated by her family’s history of dyslexia, Desiree Wilson left her career in consulting engineering to study Orton-Gillingham tutoring. By understanding her own learning differences, she quickly learned that she could help struggling children to succeed in school and life. As the demand for services grew, her husband Ken joined to help mould the budding enterprise into a thriving business. Assistants were hired, a limited company was incorporated and specialists in various academic disciplines joined the team. While one-on-one tutoring remained a key component, the company embraced new opportunities to provide high quality educational services. By 2014, the company had become the largest provider of STEM workshops and camps in British Columbia seeing tens of thousand of school students each year. In the 2020s, Unique Minds reached out to educators and learning centres across Canada to join in helping students reach their goals. Support services in testing and assessments were also added. Most recently Unique Minds established an international presence by providing post secondary business courses to students overseas.
